What is a YouTube to MP3 converter?
A YouTube to MP3 converter takes the sound of a YouTube video and saves it as an MP3 file. YouTube holds an enormous amount of content that people only listen to — podcasts, interviews, lectures, audiobooks, live sets, ambient sound — and an MP3 lets you play it in any music app, with the screen off, without using mobile data.
On Clip Converter you paste the link, open the Audio tab and press Download next to MP3. M4A, WAV and FLAC are there as well if you prefer them. It runs in the browser on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone.
How to use the YouTube to MP3
- Copy the YouTube link. Copy the URL of the song, podcast, lecture or interview.
- Paste and press Get Clip. Paste the link on the Clip Converter homepage, press Get Clip, then open the Audio tab.
- Download the MP3. Press Download next to MP3, or choose another format from the list.
Key features
- Best available audio. We always start from YouTube’s highest-quality audio stream before converting.
- Trim to the part you need. Cut a single song out of a mix, or one answer out of a long interview.
- Whole playlists to MP3. Paste a playlist link, choose Audio (MP3) and download the tracks together.
- Works on phones. Runs in Safari and Chrome on iPhone and Android — no app required.
The truth about “320 kbps”
Many converters promise 320 kbps MP3s. YouTube’s own audio streams are compressed to roughly 128–160 kbps before you ever receive them, so a 320 kbps file made from that source is just a larger container around the same sound. No detail is added.
Clip Converter takes YouTube’s best audio stream and encodes it once with a high-quality variable bitrate. The result is as good as the source allows, without inflated file sizes or inflated claims.
Trimming and playlists
Press Trim to keep only part of a recording: one track of a DJ set, one chapter of an audiobook, one answer in an interview. Audio clips are cut exactly at the times you enter.
For a music or podcast playlist, paste the playlist link, choose Audio (MP3) and select the tracks. Up to 100 items are listed, and each is saved under its own title.
Is converting YouTube to MP3 legal?
It depends on what you convert. Your own uploads, royalty-free and Creative Commons audio, public-domain recordings and content you have permission to use are fine. Commercial music is protected by copyright, and downloading it without permission may break the law where you live as well as YouTube’s terms. You are responsible for choosing what to convert.

Frequently asked questions
What bitrate is the MP3?
The file is encoded at the encoder’s highest variable-bitrate setting from YouTube’s best audio stream. Quality is limited by the source, so a higher number would not add real detail.
How long can the video be?
There is no fixed length limit. Very long videos take longer to convert and may reach a processing time limit.
Can I convert a playlist?
Yes — paste the playlist link and select Audio (MP3). Up to 100 tracks are listed.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
Yes, it is free, and there is no account, email or app to install. Paste a link and the tool works in your browser on any device.
Is it legal to use?
Saving content you created, own, or have permission to use is generally fine. Downloading copyrighted material without permission may breach the platform’s terms or local copyright law. You are responsible for how you use the files.
